Individual Therapy

Confidential, individualized psychotherapy that helps adolescents and adults understand symptoms, process experiences, and work toward meaningful emotional and behavioral goals.

Clinical overview

What individual therapy is

Individual therapy is a private, collaborative clinical service between a client and a qualified mental-health professional. Unlike ARMHS skills training, psychotherapy focuses on treating mental-health symptoms through evidence-informed therapeutic approaches.

Areas therapy may address

  • Anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and adjustment concerns
  • Stress, emotional regulation, and relationship patterns
  • Identity, self-esteem, life transitions, and personal growth
  • Coping with chronic health concerns or major changes

Your first sessions

The clinician reviews your concerns, history, strengths, safety, and goals. Together you decide whether the therapist and approach are a good fit. Your plan is individualized and reviewed as treatment progresses.

Format and privacy

Sessions may be offered in person or by secure telehealth when clinically appropriate. Information is kept confidential under applicable law, with limited safety and reporting exceptions that are explained during intake. Therapy is not an emergency service.

Final eligibility and medical necessity are confirmed through assessment and payer requirements.

  • Adolescents or adults seeking support for mental-health symptoms or life concerns
  • A clinical assessment indicates psychotherapy is appropriate
  • The client and clinician agree on treatment goals and format
  • Coverage or private-pay arrangements are confirmed before ongoing visits

Goals and outcomes

  • Understand patterns, symptoms, and emotional responses

  • Work toward measurable personal and clinical goals

How long is a therapy appointment?

Appointment length and frequency are individualized. Many outpatient sessions are approximately 45 to 60 minutes, but your clinician will explain the schedule recommended for you.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. We follow applicable privacy laws and explain limited safety, abuse-reporting, and court-related exceptions during intake.

Do you offer telehealth?

Telehealth may be available to clients located in Minnesota when it is clinically appropriate and coverage permits.

Is therapy part of ARMHS?

No. Psychotherapy and ARMHS are distinct services, though a client may receive both when each is medically necessary and the services are coordinated without duplication.
